HISTORY
Medical Laboratory Technology, a highly developed discipline in the developed nations of the world, is yet to get its due importance in India. The demand for Medical Laboratory Technologists is expected to be exponential in the coming years mainly due to the growth of health infrastructure as envisioned in the Government of India’s 11th Five year plan and the privatization of medical care in India. The growth in Industries, R & D’s, Marketing etc and overall infrastructure development in the country also suggests a greater demand for Medical Laboratory Technologists in providing quality laboratory and health services. Medical Laboratory Technologists offer services to people at all levels in the society.
Way back in 1999 Alva’s Education Foundation (AEF) recognized the need for professional Medical Laboratory Technologists and hence established Alva’s College of Medical Laboratory Technology (ACMLT). Alva’s College Of Medical Laboratory Technology has both Bachelor (B.Sc MLT) and Master (M.Sc MLT) programmes and is now contemplating of starting a Doctoral programme (Ph. D.) in Medical Laboratory Technology.
Alva’s College Of Medical Laboratory Technology And Post Graduate Research Centre has been a centre of a excellence for the past 20 years since its inception in 1999.
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Our college has orchestrated a shift towards the use of research and scientific evidence to guide practice decisions and toward evidence – based practice.
Being a research Institute, we offer a lot of opportunities for our staff and students to carry out their research studies. Our staff and students are involved in research studies perennially. Our college has a laboratory with all the latest research equipments for conducting research in all the fields of Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT).

Due to the foresight of Dr. M. Mohan Alva, the college came into existence in the year 1999- 2000. Today, within a short span it has elevated itself into an embodiment of quality education in the field of Medical Laboratory Technology in the line with the best Institution in the country it is also an abode of rich culture and traditional extravaganza of the country as it has vibrant mix of students from across the country and world, who cherish each moment of their stay here.

As long as Physicians add years to the life, Laboratory technologists add quality to it. Its origin dates back to the B.C’s with eminent contributions from Aristotle, Socrates, Charka, to the modern Louis Pasteur, Land Steiner etc to mention a few. Today thousands of laboratory technologists, offer services 24 hours a day 365 days a year all over the world. Not merely are their services required in diagnostic laboratories alone but also in production, research and academic areas with an aim, that man may live his life span in perfect harmony.
Medical fraternity is experiencing technological advancement at a breath taking pace, revolutionizing with it the health care industry. This gave raise to attractive career option in the from of medical laboratory technologist who are entrusted with the responsibility to maintain diagnostic facilities and blood banks. Perform and analyze clinical chemistry, haematology, immunology and microbiological tests . You need not be an Einstein to predict that the need for laboratory technology will grow phenomenally through out the world as latest advance in investigative procedures keep pouring in. CLINICAL FACILITIES
Students of the college are given training at the clinical laboratories- Microbiology, Biochemistry, Pathology, Blood Banking etc at Alva’s Health Centre Hospital which is 250 bedded multispecialty hospital. The clinical laboratory houses state of the art imported instrumentations, i;e Sysmax 12 part cell counter, Mini Vidas chemiluminescence hormone analyzer, chemistry analyzer, automated ESR, urine analyzer to mention a few. It caters to the entire population of Moodbidri and surrounding areas. Training is also given to students at Alva’s Ayurveda Medical College Hospital. In addition, the college also has MOUS’s with various well established Medical Colleges , diagnostic centers and research Institutions for the purpose of imparting quality training to the candidates.

SPORTS :
Alva’s Education Foundation has initiated Ekalavya Sports Club 25 years back to support meritorious sports students by providing them excellent coaching along with free education and boarding. It has proved fruitful by athletics and players getting international medals and recognition other than continuously holding the championship universities they represent. Apart from academic the college has provided special interest in both indoor and outdoor games. Annual college sports day is conducted and students are encouraged as per their interest.
LIBRARY:
The college library has a vast array of books from authors of national and international repute in medical sciences. The library catalogue lists more than 3,000 medical books and latest journals, which are proud asset for the Institution. The library also has broadband internet facilities. The library is accessible from 8 am to 11pm. Digital library with internet facility and Helinet consortium for access to various-journals. The library has an in house Xerox facility as well.
TRAINING AND PLACEMENT CELL
Interacting with leaders in the health service. Maintaining a detailed data bank of the profiles of the students. Preparing students for campus interviews with presentations and counselling. The college organises hospital visits, Clinical training, workshops, seminars and guest lectures by eminent persons from the respective fields for the benefit of the students. The college organises clinical training programme for B.Sc MLT and M.Sc MLT students at reputed hospitals. The college has a placement cell as well.
HOSTEL
Institution provides excellent boarding facilities separately for girls and boys with North Indian and South Indian food. To prevent any incidents of ragging the Institutions provides separate accommodation, for junior students.
TRANSPORT
Transport facilities is available for daily communication between college and clinical posting at various centres. The college also provides transport facility as per special needs of all students whenever required.
Courses Offered:
B.Sc MLT (Bachelor of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology) – 3 years +1year Internship
Eligibility :
Students who have passed PUC/ PDC/ HSC (10+2) including VHES KERALA with Medical Laboratory Technology with a minimum of 40% marks in Physics, Chemistry & Biology. A11 foreign nationals should have equivalent educational qualification approved by Board of All lndia Universities, New Delhi.
FOR LATERAL CINTRY DIRECTLY TO SECOND YEAR:
Candidates should have passed diploma program (Diploma in MLT DMLT) from the Govt Board recogrrized by Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore. Karnataka.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
At the time of applying for the course candidate should duly fill in the application form with demand draft for Rs. 600/- towards registration or equivalent foreign currency in favour of “The Chairman Alva’s Education Foundation” payable at Moodbidri, Karnataka.
The following document duly attested should be enclosed with application
- Five photo copies of marks card of PUC/+2
- Five photo copies of SSLC certificate showing the date of birth
- Five photo copies of physical fitness certificate by registered medical practitioners
- Five copies of passport size and stamp size photographs.
- Five photo copies of Conduct certificate from the institution last attended
- Five photo copies of Transfer Certificate and Migration Certificate.
- Candidates should produce Eligibility Certificate form Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, (For Non Karnataka PUC/ PDC/ VHES /HSE /CBSE/ ICSE Students)
M.Sc MLT (Masters of of Science in Medical Laboratory Technology) – 2 years
ELIGIBILITY:
The candidate who have passed B.Sc MLT degree from a recognized University with not less than 50 % of marks in aggregate. An eligibility certificate from the REGISTRAR. Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences, Bangalore, must be submitted by Non Karnataka candidates prior to enrolment.
ADMISSION PROCEDURE:
At the time of applying for the course candidate should fill in the application form with demand draft for Rs. 1000/- towards registration or equivalent foreign currency in favour of “The Chairman Alva’s Education Foundation” payable at Moodbidri, Karnataka.
The following document duly attested should be enclosed with application
